Pediatric psychiatry

A pediatric psychiatrist is a professional that specializes in the treatment of children with severe developmental problems such as childhood anxiety and depression, anorexia, bulimia, and phobias.

He also sees patients with severe ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), oppositional defiant disorder, addictions, schizophrenia, psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, and other neuropsychological issues.

The psychiatrist’s job is to evaluate and treat children and adolescents who have psychopathology in order to improve their integration and autonomy in their environment.

They can also provide therapeutic help through psychotherapy in a few instances.

A child psychiatrist is a doctor who, after graduation, must undergo a four-year residency in psychiatry.

Child psychiatry is likely to become its own specialty in the next years, distinguishing it from adult psychiatry.
